Even with the programme of activities and theme colors laid out in a
subtle fashion to mimic the brochure of a typical text messaging manual,
the meat of the talk
was clear: there is a need to "reload" one's spiritual life
as morals have deteriorated and growth in the community has been stunted by inability to innovate one's role as an evangelizer to the
world. To say the least, creative minds behind the conference, a microcosm of
the entire SFC personality wrestled the participants away from the traditional
in-your-face approach. Just as the recently-departured Pope John Paul II adopted
technology to reach the whole Christiandom (and eventually the news of his death),
SFC also adopted to the signs of times where yuppies and even kids are fond
of innovations such as the Internet and mobile technology. Talks were given in a technologically-savvy flavor
such as coming up with new meanings to obviously overused acronyms such as ISP,
uploads/downloads and DIALUP. A short intermission featuring Pop Idol was held during the lunch break with
Divina Reyroso of SFC Macau winning the Fantasia Barrino award and Dona Bas
in a Cinderella finish. Second runner-up was Alex Ranay of SFC Guangzhou. Acting
as judge was SFC Couple Coordinator Elmer Anonuevo and the whole event's Master
of Ceremony Marivi Santos and Jay Apolinario. A lively praisefest and exaltation of the CFC flag took place shortly before
a Eucharistic celebration, officiated by Fr Emil Lim. The conference ended at
6.25pm.
Themed after the ever popular short messaging service convenience in the Philippines,
SFC Reloaded Conference showed Singles For Christ is innovative enough to adopt
even with modern technologies in an effort to capture the attention of the present-day's
singles.
The session started by physically subjecting three
designated groups into various obstacles such as Over The Top which all members
of the group will have to pass through a man-made crevice; Perfect Square in which
blindfolded members were asked to form a perfect square; Balloon Game which tested
members unity in keeping the balloon afloat while holding each other's hands;
Longest Line which participants have to resourcefully form a line out
of personal belongings to reach a designated finish line (items ranged from belts
to jewelries and did not prevent some male participants to go half naked); and
Fallout Shelter where a designated leader directs on a situation on whom to give
up and whom to retain in the midst of an imaginary bomb blast at a fictional city.
Although some of the games were played physically, the purpose was to measure
the level of thinking and instinct to come up with situations based on morally
accepted values weighed against practicalities.
SFC Reloaded was
successfully held in the outskirts of Lam Tin, a predominantly middle class
residential area in the heart of East Kowloon on 10 April 2005. Participants
came from Macau, Guangzhou, Hong Kong and as far as Fiji islands in this
once-a-year event. In time when the community craved for spiritual nourishment
the conference was a big boost, thanks to a contingent of service team from
Manila led by outgoing North Asia Coordinator brother Eric Bostre and wife
Joann as well as incoming leader Patrick Oconer. Ably assisting them were
Marivi Santos, Anne Baking, Anna Arcaya, Erica Cleofe, Myke Perfecto, Julian
Siguenza, and Davis Grana It was indeed a rewarding day to participants
who get to enjoy talks and sharings from speakers as well as mingle with
brothers and sisters from other communities through team activities.

Anne's sharing inspired the crowd.
